Planning Reconstruction for Facial Asymmetry
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes the use of 3D shape modeling to plan reconstructive facial surgery for children born with facial asymmetry. The study used 3D images synthesized from high resolution CT scans. The images were manipulated using geometric morphometrics and the principal components of variation were derived. The software developed allows the user to either reconstruct how the whole face would appear without the presence of asymmetry, or to restrict the reconstruction to a smaller region that is surgically feasible to alter. The software aims to allow several observers to warp parts of the face along the principal components of variation until the most aesthetic result is achieved. The subjective assessment of an aesthetic result will be judged by surgeons and non surgeons. Having attained the optimum warp the type and amount of tissue required for surgery can be derived.

Complex Nasal and Periorbital Reconstruction Using Locoregional Flaps: A Case Report
Facial reconstruction is one of the most challenging problems faced by a reconstructive surgeon. We present a case of complex facial reconstruction with a composite trauma to the nose resulting in near total loss of skin and lining along with complete loss of left eyebrow with exposed frontal bone and partial loss of the left eyelid. We combined a temporoparietal fascial flap for reconstruction...
متن کاملAn Assessment of Sexual Dimorphism in Relation to Facial Asymmetry in Esthetically Pleasing Faces
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study is to detect gender-wise difference in the skeletal asymmetry in the esthetically pleasing faces. MATERIALS AND METHODS a cross sectional study was conducted on 25 females and 25 males of age 18 -25 years using the posterior-anterior cephalograms. The selected part of grummon's frontal analysis for analyzing the vertical skeletal asymmetries, mandibular morpholo...
متن کاملManagement of Synkinesis and Asymmetry in Facial Nerve Palsy: A Review Article
Introduction: The important sequelae of facial nerve palsy are synkinesis, asymmetry, hypertension and contracture; all of which have psychosocial effects on patients. Synkinesis due to mal regeneration causes involuntary movements during a voluntary movement. Previous studies have advocated treatment using physiotherapy modalities alone or with exercise therapy, but no consensus exists on the ...
متن کاملRhinoplasty and facial asymmetry: Analysis of subjective and anthropometric factors in the Caucasian nose
INTRODUCTION Anthropometric proportions and symmetry are considered determinants of beauty. These parameters have significant importance in facial plastic surgery, particularly in rhinoplasty. As the central organ of the face, the nose is especially important in determining facial symmetry, both through the perception of a crooked nose and through the determination of facial growth. The evalua...
متن کاملOrthognathic treatment of facial asymmetry due to temporomandibular joint ankylosis
The aim of this study was to present a case series of the orthognathic treatment of facial asymmetry due to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis and to characterize the current treatment modalities through a literature review. Four patients who presented with facial asymmetry due to TMJ ankylosis between 2010 and 2014 were included in this study. TMJ ankylosis was surgically treated before b...
